Electrical Rebates & Incentives for Sacramento/Placer County (2025-2026)
SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District) Rebates
EV Charger Installation:
- Up to $900 in rebates toward a Level 2 EV charger installation and necessary electric upgrades
- Up to $600 available towards EV charging equipment and/or electric circuit installation costs
- $250 toward purchase of Level 2 EV charger, $200 for circuit sharing or energy management device, $500 to install dedicated electric circuit

Electrical Panel Upgrades:
- Up to $500 to install a sub-panel if more panel space is needed to electrify the home
- If electrical panel upgrade is included with future appliance circuits, total rebate of $2,000 (home must be all-electric ready with panel plus all eligible circuits)
Go Electric Bonus Package:
- Up to $500 paid for each eligible circuit (dryer, cooktop/range, electric vehicle), up to total of $2,000
- Must use participating SMUD Contractor Network contractor

Commercial/Business Rebates:
- Level 2 charging stations may receive up to $4,500 per port
- DCFC stations may receive rebates up to $30,000 per station
PG&E Rebates (Placer County)
Residential:
- $300 rebate for portable backup power system
- Income-eligible households can receive $700 rebate on EV charging equipment installed in homes
- Various heat pump and energy efficiency rebates available through PG&E+ Marketplace
Federal Tax Credits (Expire December 31, 2025)
25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit:
- Electrical panels: up to 30% of project costs, capped at $600 when panel enables use of qualified heat pump or heat pump water heater
- Panel must be installed consistent with National Electric Code and have load capacity of at least 200 amps
- Overall total limit for efficiency tax credit in one year is $3,200
- Heat pumps and heat pump water heaters: 30% of costs, up to limit of $2,000
IRS Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit Details
25D Residential Clean Energy Credit:
- 30% of cost for solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal heat pumps, and qualified battery storage with no dollar limit (except fuel cells)
- Panel upgrades done in conjunction with solar installation may qualify
California State Programs
HEEHRA (High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate):
- Single family households with income below 80% AMI eligible for $8,000 rebate
- Single family households with income between 80-150% AMI eligible for $4,000 rebate
- Covers heat pump HVAC units and other electrical upgrades
- Currently available through TECH Clean California
IRA Home Efficiency Rebates (HOMES):
- 60% allocated to Equitable Building Decarbonization Direct Install Program, 40% to Pay for Performance Program
- California received DOE approval January 2025, rebates not yet available
California Energy Commission IRA Programs
Important Notes:
- Act Fast: Both 25C and 25D credits expire on Dec. 31, 2025
- Documentation Required: Keep all receipts, permits, and manufacturer certifications for tax credits
- Stacking Rebates: Many rebates can be combined – customers may qualify for utility rebates AND federal tax credits
- Income Verification: Some programs require income qualification, particularly HEEHRA
- Licensed Contractor Required: Most programs require installation by licensed electrical contractors
